Right now your TMT team is sweltering in the midnight heat of the capital of Kosovo, Pristina.
A beautiful country, although difficult to write in - too many people to speak to, for one, and the power keeps going off for another.
But, it does inspire a topic for the first round of stories. Travel!
Do you have an intro to a travel story you want to submit? Maybe a sinking boat in Africa? Run-in with Geisha girls in Japan? How not to eat a baguette? Or even just mum-made-me summers in Blackpool?
Submit it! Get the first 500 words to thousand.monkey@gmail.com by June 10 to be in the running for the first round of stories. We'll pick the best 3-4 to work on for round two.
500 words takes a lot less effort than you think... what are you waiting for?

Welcome to Thousand Monkey Typewriter
What are we doing here?
TMT is a collaborative writing portal. We all know the frustration of writer's block, and how hard it can be to get inspired on your own. Writing fiction can be a lonely road, but it doesn't have to be. TMT aims to create wikifiction - the kind of stories we all write together. You can find more information about wikifiction here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collaborative_fiction
Why would I do that?
By joining us, you'll be connected to an international network of writers. You'll receive encouragement, feedback and a constant flow of fresh ideas from other eager writers. And you'll be able to provide the same support for others - it's the creative writing workshop you don't have to pay for.
So how does it work?
We don't want your masterpieces. You can keep those. Every now and again we'll call for submissions of new story beginnings (of around 500 words) from interested writers. Then writers will be able to select a piece to work on, and write the next installment. It might not be Shakespeare, but it's fun. Think of it more as exercise for your writer's muscles. You'll get to play around with different characters, scenarios you've never thought of, genres you liked but were never sure of how to do it. And you can contribute as little or as often as you like.
